WHAT IS THE RELAY?

The Colorado Relay, a 24-hour, team relay race, is the premier adventure of its kind in Colorado. Two races take place on the same day -- the Colorado Relay Classic is a 174-mile team relay that has 30 legs going from Georgetown to Carbondale. The Colorado Relay Century is a 112-mile team relay race from Frisco to Carbondale for teams of 1, 5 or 10 over 20 legs. The course takes athletes of all abilities, across several mountain passes in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Most teams have 10 runners each of whom run three segments of the race (for the Classic), with a leg averaging about 6 miles. Some teams in the Non-Conformist division have between 6-12 runners.

The 2009 Race Dates are September 11-12, 2009. REGISTRATION.

An option for elite runners is to create an Ultra team of five runners who take on either the 174-mile Classic Race or the 112-mile Century race. Teams in the Ultra "Freestyle" category have 5 runners who can take any number of legs in any order that they prefer as long as only 5 runners participate.

Regardless of the division or length of the course, the Colorado Relay attracts people from all over the nation and is designed for both casual and competitive runners.

WHO WE ARE?
The Relay was created to support the Colorado Outward Bound School and its mission. Now, as Outward Bound changed names from COBS to OBWest, and OBWest to OBWilderness, the Relay continued its support of Outward Bound. The Colorado Relay is meant to challenge, reward and amaze you, so that at the finish line the challenges and accomplishments along the way have shown you a hint of what is possible with strong teamwork, tenacity and leadership.
